Internationally, tournaments play a huge part in youth development. These
tournaments can take place over a week, a weekend, or a day.

The John Barnes Respect Cup was a one day U-23  tournament aimed at
providing a platform for these players to showcase their talent.

The fact that we were able to have
Mr. John Charles Bryan Barnes MBE, (a
member of the list of '
100 Great Black Britons') present was indeed an honor
and a privilege. But, it was his impact on the young players that made the event
truly special. He interacted with players, coaches, referees, administrators and
spectators alike throughout the day,  In the evening all were hosted at a banquet
at Hotel Versalles, May Pen, where John was able to share with everyone from
his own personal, professional football experiences.

The event had Lucozade Sport as main sponsors. They provided: full outfit for
all 5 teams and
Lucozade sport beverages all day long.

There is every reason to continue an event of this nature as the overall benefit
to the game of football in Jamaica cannot be quantified in numbers only.
